RR Waste Solutions, headquartered in Austin, Texas, provides waste-management solutions to communities nationwide. Operating continuously since the 1960s, the firm services residential, commercial, and industrial clients, offering everything from waste collection and disposal to recycling and landfill oversight. RR Waste Solutions is a longtime partner of the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA).
A leader in the for-profit waste and recycling businesses, the NWRA engages in regular industry research and public policy outreach. In early 2014, the trade group commissioned a Harris Poll survey that examined the recycling habits of more than 2,000 U.S. adults. The survey found that while more than half of American adults have access to curbside recycling, the general public could benefit from further education on what can and cannot be recycled.
Among other things, the survey found that 67 percent of respondents say they are clear on what can go in recycling bins. Additionally, 64 percent stated they knew they were supposed to rinse used food containers before recycling them. However, 39 percent of respondents incorrectly thought that it was acceptable to place plastic bags in household recycling bins. Even more alarming, nearly 1 in 10 respondents claimed they added their trash to their recycling container when their waste bins filled up.
